Adjustment of Asian nose shapes in Dortmund: consultation and surgery under one roof

At the Deutsches Nasenzentrum® of the Westfalenklinik in Dortmund, you discuss your wishes, have your operation and spend the one to two nights after the procedure in the same building. The specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery works with quality management according to DIN ISO 9001, audited by TÜV Süd, and bases its hygiene on the requirements of the Robert Koch-Institut. Supervision under § 30 Gewerbeordnung lies with the city's public order office and health office and with the Regierungspräsidium Arnsberg.

From the main station, you reach the clinic at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4 by taking the U45 to Stadtgarten and then the U42 to the Theodor-Fliedner-Heim stop. By car, leave the B1 at the Dortmund-Hombruch exit and park on the parking deck of the building directly in front of the entrance. The route in detail is under Directions.

This is why patients decide to have their Asian nose shape adjusted

  • Desire for a narrower nasal tip for a defined, slimmer appearance
  • Adjustment to cultural or professional expectations for an aesthetically more fitting appearance
  • Wish for a higher nasal bridge for an accentuated nasal structure
  • Striving for Western ideals of beauty for a more distinctive profile

What does aligning an Asian nose with European nose shapes mean?

Aligning an Asian nose with European nose shapes is an aesthetic surgical procedure in which the natural features of an Asian nose are modified to bring them closer to the characteristic features of European noses. This can include changes to the shape, size and structure of the nose, such as raising the nasal bridge, narrowing the nasal wings and defining the nasal tip. The aim of this operation is to create a more harmonious balance between the nose and the rest of the facial features that corresponds to the patient's aesthetic wishes.

What are the differences between Asian and European noses?

Asian noses often have different anatomical features compared with European noses. Typical features of Asian noses are a flatter nasal bridge, wider nasal wings and a rather round or less defined nasal tip. The columella is often shorter and the angle between the nose and the upper lip smaller. By contrast, European noses usually have a higher nasal bridge, narrower nasal wings and a more pronounced, pointed nasal tip. These differences result from genetic factors and can influence aesthetic ideas.

Deutsches Nasenzentrum®: aims of adjusting an Asian nose shape

  • Improving the nasal proportions for a harmonious face

  • Strengthening the nasal bridge for a defined profile

  • Refining the nasal tip according to your aesthetic ideas

  • Preserving ethnic features while adjusting the nose shape

What aesthetic and functional wishes can patients have when adjusting an Asian nose?

Patients who wish to have their Asian nose aligned with European nose shapes often strive for a more harmonious integration of the nose into their facial features. Frequently expressed aesthetic wishes include a higher, narrower nasal bridge, a more defined nasal tip and an overall narrower nose shape. Functional improvements such as improved breathing can also be desired, especially if the natural structure of the nose impairs it. In this way, many patients would like to be able to identify better with their outward appearance.

What is the procedure for correcting an Asian nose shape for alignment at the Westfalenklinik?

The procedure begins with a detailed consultation in which the surgeon analyses the patient's individual wishes and natural anatomy. Digital simulations are often used to show possible changes visually. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia and can take several hours, depending on the extent of the correction. Typical procedures include inserting implants or your own cartilage to raise the nasal bridge, narrowing the nasal wings by removing excess tissue, and shaping the nasal tip. After the operation a recovery phase of a few weeks is necessary, during which swelling and bruising subside and the final result becomes visible.

This is how the adjustment of your nose shape proceeds at the Deutsches Nasenzentrum®:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Dortmund. We discuss your wishes and examine the anatomy of your nose. You can book the appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia and, depending on the extent of the correction, can take several hours.

  3. Step 3

    The first few days

In the clinic. You stay one to two nights as an inpatient. Swelling and bruising are normal in the first period.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 1 to 2

Plaster splint. You wear the plaster splint and avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport; you wash your hair with your head bent forward.

  5. Step 5

    After about 14 days

Back to everyday life. The stitches are removed, and you are back out among people after one to two weeks. In most cases you are unfit for work for about 14 days.

  6. Step 6

    After a few weeks

The result. After a recovery phase of a few weeks, swelling and bruising have subsided and the final result becomes visible.

What do the result and satisfaction depend on when adjusting Asian nose shapes?

A particular result of a nose correction for alignment with European nose shapes cannot be promised in advance; it depends in particular on the surgeon's experience, on the anatomy and on the healing. The aim is more balanced facial proportions and greater satisfaction with your own appearance. The surgical change is intended to be permanent, as long as no significant injuries or trauma affect the nose. However, it is important that expectations are realistic and agreed in close consultation with the surgeon, so that the intended result matches the aesthetic ideas.

What risks and limitations are associated with aligning an Asian nose?

As with any surgical procedure, nose correction also involves risks and possible complications. These include infections, bleeding, unwanted scarring or asymmetrical healing. It can also happen that the aesthetic result does not fully meet expectations, which in rare cases makes a follow-up correction necessary. In addition, swelling and bruising in the first weeks after the operation can temporarily affect the final result. It is therefore important to follow the surgeon's aftercare instructions carefully and to prepare for the healing process.

What does the adjustment of Asian nose shapes cost in Dortmund?

The costs depend on which procedures are combined in your case: raising the nasal bridge with an implant or your own cartilage, narrowing the nasal wings, shaping the nasal tip or an additional functional correction. After your consultation at the Westfalenklinik, you receive a no-obligation treatment quote for this.

All treatment prices are final prices including statutory VAT. Overnight stay and meals, implants, follow-up treatments and the anaesthetist are not added afterwards; on request, follow-up cost insurance against the costs of possible follow-up procedures is available, offered at cost price. Financing is possible through our financing partner; more on this under Financing your treatment.

What should you look out for when choosing a surgeon?

Choosing the right surgeon is crucial for the success of the operation. Patients should make sure that the surgeon has specialised experience in aesthetic and reconstructive nasal surgery, particularly in correcting Asian noses. An experienced surgeon will be able to understand and implement the patient's specific needs and wishes and to give a realistic assessment of the possible results. It is advisable to ask about experience with the planned procedure during the consultation and to build a relationship of trust.

At the Deutsches Nasenzentrum® led by Dr. med. Michael Bromba, with decades of experience, you can rely on expertise and care in carrying out adjustments of Asian nose shapes in functional and aesthetic terms. Arrange your appointment with no obligation for a personal consultation at the Westfalenklinik Dortmund.

Frequently asked questions

When does German statutory health insurance pay for a nose correction?

If the operation is necessary because of a functional disorder of the nose, private health insurance or Beihilfe (German civil service allowance) may cover part of the costs. This does not apply to the aesthetic part of the nose correction. Please discuss this with your private health insurance or Beihilfe. For people with statutory insurance, reimbursement by their German statutory health insurance fund is possible if there is a medical indication and the treatment takes place in our central clinic. You will receive further information in your personal consultation.

How painful is nose surgery and how long is the nose swollen?

Any pain that occurs can be treated well and effectively with accompanying medication. Slight swelling and haematomas under the eyes are possible, but these have usually subsided by the time the cast is removed.

How long is the stay in the clinic for a nose correction?

As a rule, you can leave the clinic one day after the correction. In a few exceptional cases you stay for a second night for observation. Smaller procedures can be done on an outpatient basis.

How should I behave straight after a nose correction, how long do I have to wear a cast and when can I return to sport?

In the first one to two weeks, wear a plaster splint applied straight after the correction, with an adhesive or acrylic dressing. Avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport during this time. Wash your hair with your head bent forward. In the first six weeks after the nose correction you should also refrain from wearing glasses.

How long will I be signed off sick after nose surgery?

Naturally, this depends on which type of nose correction is necessary and advisable in your case. It makes a difference whether we only perform a nasal tip correction, only straighten the nose or carry out a full nose correction. In most cases you are unfit for work for 14 days, in exceptional cases somewhat longer. Your treating doctor at Westfalenklinik can tell you very precisely how much time off work to expect in your case if healing goes well.
