Treatments: Weight loss

  • GLP-1 therapy

Our modern treatment concept with GLP-1 does without surgical procedures entirely.

  • Nutritional advice

You want to lose weight but don’t really know where to start? The right nutrition concept matters from the very beginning.

  • Gastric balloon

A balloon reduces the size of the stomach for a limited time, for 6 months, for 1 year or as the swallowable gastric balloon Elipse® for about 4 months. The three balloons compared.

  • hydroGMA

During a gastroscopy, the lining of the gastric dome, where most of the hunger hormone ghrelin is produced, is ablated. Without an incision, on its own or together with an endo-sleeve.

  • Stomach reduction without surgery

Diets no longer seem to work, and a surgical method is out of the question for you? Endoscopic procedures reduce the size of the stomach without an incision through the abdominal wall.

  • Endo-sleeve

The POSE® 3.0 endo-sleeve combines the permanent result of a surgical stomach reduction with the approach of an endoscopy, without an incision through the abdominal wall.

  • Stomach surgery

Gastric sleeve or gastric bypass for severe obesity, the surgical paths to stomach reduction.

  • Revision after stomach surgery

Regained weight, dumping syndrome or reflux after stomach surgery? Consultation, diagnostics and correction, endoscopic or surgical.

  • Skin tightening after weight loss

Tightening of the abdomen, upper arms, thighs or several areas when skin is left over after a large weight loss.

  • Costs and German health insurance

What the paths to weight loss cost, when German statutory health insurance can cover a stomach reduction, and how financing works.

Which treatment is right for me?

One question, and you will see which treatments could suit what you have in mind.

For me, a procedure is …

No-obligation guidance – does not replace medical advice. Which treatment suits you is something you clarify with your specialist in the consultation.

Weight loss in Dortmund: with medical support at the Westfalenklinik

Losing weight is a long path for many people, and good intentions alone are often not enough. At the Westfalenklinik in Dortmund, we support you medically: we examine you, discuss your goals and choose with you the path that suits your body and your everyday life. From the first consultation, a personal contact person is at your side, and nutrition coaches help you to establish the new habits.

Consultation, treatment and aftercare take place at our specialist clinic at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, right on the B1/A40 near the Signal Iduna Park. By car, take the Dortmund-Hombruch exit and park on the building’s parking deck; by public transport, take the U45 from the main station to Stadtgarten and then the U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim. You can read more about the route under Directions.

Which path to weight loss suits you?

Not every path suits everyone. GLP-1 therapy manages without a procedure. A gastric balloon reduces the size of the stomach for a few months and is possible from a BMI of 27: as a gastric balloon for 6 months, as a gastric balloon for 1 year or as the swallowable gastric balloon Elipse®; we compare the three on the page on the gastric balloon.

hydroGMA targets the feeling of hunger during a gastroscopy, without an incision and without a foreign body in the stomach. The POSE® 3.0 endo-sleeve reduces the size of the stomach permanently during a gastroscopy, without an incision through the abdominal wall. The page Stomach surgery provides information on the surgical paths, gastric sleeve and gastric bypass. If earlier stomach surgery has not brought the desired result or is causing problems, the consultation on revision after stomach surgery clarifies the cause.

What they all have in common: they are aids, and whether the weight stays down depends on how you change your diet and exercise.

That is why the treatments include support from nutrition coaching and an app, and you can also book nutrition coaching on its own. We decide with you, after the examination, which path makes sense. A combination is also possible, for example GLP-1 therapy after the removal of a gastric balloon.

Methods compared

Three paths to losing weight with medical support

Without a procedure, with a balloon for a limited time, or with a permanent stomach reduction. The most important differences at a glance.

GLP-1 therapywithout a procedure

The active substance, which you inject yourself once a week following instruction, is modelled on the body’s own hormone GLP-1. It can reduce the feeling of hunger and slow down digestion, so that the feeling of fullness lasts longer.

Gastric balloonfor a limited time

A balloon is placed during a gastroscopy or swallowed as a capsule and filled with fluid in the stomach. It takes up space there, so that you feel full sooner, and is removed or excreted after 4 to 12 months.

Endo-sleevepermanent, without an incision

During a gastroscopy, the stomach is gathered from the inside and sutured with anchors. Nothing is removed; the stomach retains about a quarter of its volume. The procedure is intended to be permanent.

This is how weight loss with medical support proceeds at the Westfalenklinik in Dortmund:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

First consultation. You book online or call us. The first conversation is about your goals, your previous attempts to lose weight and your health.

  2. Step 2

    Examination

Your starting point. We determine your BMI, ask about accompanying conditions and clarify which paths come into question for you.

    Decision

Your plan. Together, you choose the path and the package that suit you, and receive a no-obligation offer.

  4. Step 4

After weight loss: skin tightening at the Westfalenklinik

After a large weight loss, the skin often does not retract on its own, especially on the abdomen, upper arms and thighs.

As a specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery, we tighten these areas in the same building in Dortmund in which you were supported during weight loss. You can read more about this under Skin tightening after weight loss.

From what BMI is treatment possible?

A gastric balloon is an option from a BMI of 27, the POSE® 3.0 endo-sleeve as a rule at a BMI of 30 to 40. GLP-1 therapy is particularly suitable from a BMI of 25 and for weight-related conditions such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes; the doctor decides whether it is an option for you.

What does weight loss with medical support cost in Dortmund?

That depends on the path. The standard gastric balloon package starts at €2,890, GLP-1 therapy at €399 a month, nutrition coaching at €159.
