Correction of the nostrils in Dortmund: one clinic, one contact person

The correction of your nostrils is carried out by the Deutsches Nasenzentrum® at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund. The specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery does not depend on external surgical centres or clinics with visiting surgeons for this: consultation, procedure and follow-up appointments take place in the same building, and a personal contact person accompanies you from the first consultation to the final follow-up examination. Smaller corrections are possible on an outpatient basis; if you stay one night for observation, you are looked after at night by the clinic's qualified staff trained in emergency medicine.

You will find Westfalenklinik at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, directly on the B1/A40 in the immediate vicinity of Signal Iduna Park. By car, leave the B1 at the Dortmund-Hombruch exit, turn right into Wittekindstraße and after 700 m right into Rosemeyerstraße; parking is on the building's parking deck directly in front of the entrance. All routes, including by bus and train, can be found under Directions.

This is why patients decide on a correction of their nostrils

  • Improving symmetry by adjusting uneven nostrils
  • Reducing noticeably large nostrils for a more discreet and aesthetically more pleasing appearance
  • Correction of the nasal wings to harmonise the overall shape of the nose
  • Wish for a more natural and balanced appearance of the nose

What is meant by a correction of the nostrils?

A correction of the nostrils is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the shape, size or symmetry of the nostrils in order to achieve a more harmonious overall appearance of the face. Patients who decide on this procedure often find their nostrils too large, too small, asymmetrical or disproportionate to the rest of the nose. These aesthetic irregularities can affect self-confidence and disturb the overall appearance of the face. In some cases, altered nostrils can also cause functional problems, such as breathing difficulties. The aim of the correction is to improve both aesthetic and functional aspects of the nostrils.

Deutsches Nasenzentrum®: aims of a correction of the nostrils

  • Improving nasal breathing by adjusting the nostrils for better air circulation

  • Reducing airway narrowing by realigning or reducing asymmetrical nostrils

  • Increasing the stability of the nose through structural adjustments that support the shape and function of the nose

  • Preventing skin irritation and inflammation by correcting excessively large or narrow nostrils that can lead to friction

What treatment options are there for correcting the nostrils?

There are various surgical techniques for correcting the nostrils, which can be individually adapted to the patient's needs. The most common methods include:

How does the correction of the nostrils proceed at Westfalenklinik?

Treatment for a correction of the nostrils begins with a detailed consultation in which the surgeon discusses the patient's individual wishes and expectations. A thorough examination of the structure of the nose and the facial features helps the surgeon to choose the suitable approach for the correction. Both aesthetic and functional aspects are taken into account.

The procedure itself is usually carried out under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia, depending on the extent of the correction and the patient's preferences. The surgeon makes precise incisions, either on the nasal wings or inside the nose, in order to minimise scarring. The operation usually takes between one and two hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure.

After the operation, the nose is stabilised with fine dressings or splints to secure the new shape and support healing. Most patients can go home on the same day but should rest in the first few days after the operation and avoid physical exertion. Regular follow-up appointments with the surgeon are important in order to monitor the healing process and check whether the desired result is being achieved.

This is how the correction of your nostrils proceeds at the Deutsches Nasenzentrum®:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Dortmund. We discuss your wishes and expectations and examine the structure of the nose and the facial features, aesthetically as well as functionally. You can book the appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

The procedure. Depending on its extent, it is carried out under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia and usually takes one to two hours. The incisions are made on the nasal wings or inside the nose.

  3. Step 3

    On the same day

Going home. Fine dressings or splints secure the new shape. Most patients go home on the same day, otherwise after one night in the clinic; take it easy in the first few days.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 1 to 2

Splint and rest. You wear the plaster splint with an adhesive or acrylic dressing, avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport, and wash your hair with your head bent forward.

  5. Step 5

    After about 14 days

Back to everyday life. The stitches are removed; you are back out among people after one to two weeks.

  6. Step 6

    Up to week 6

No glasses. You do not wear glasses for the first six weeks after the procedure; regular follow-up appointments accompany the healing.

What does the result of a correction of the nostrils depend on?

A specific result cannot be promised in advance. It depends on the initial situation, the surgeon's experience and specialisation, the surgical technique and the healing process. The aim is to improve both the aesthetic appearance and the functionality of the nostrils. Carrying out the procedure precisely and carefully can not only change the outward appearance but also improve nasal breathing, particularly if breathing problems were previously caused by disproportionately large or small nostrils. The final result is usually fully visible after a few weeks, once the swelling has subsided and the structure of the nose has stabilised.

What restrictions come with a correction of the nostrils?

After a correction of the nostrils, temporary restrictions can occur. Swelling and slight bruising around the nose are normal and usually subside within the first week. In the first few days after the operation, nasal breathing can be impaired by swelling, and a slight feeling of pressure may occur. The nose will be sensitive in the first few weeks, and it is important to protect it from knocks or pressure. Physical exertion should be avoided in the first few weeks in order to support the healing process. It is essential that the patient follows the surgeon's aftercare instructions precisely in order to support healing.

What side effects and risks are there with a correction of the nostrils?

As with any surgical procedure, a correction of the nostrils involves potential risks and side effects. The most common risks include infections, bleeding and scarring. In rare cases, undesirable aesthetic results can occur that make a revision necessary. Temporary swelling, bruising and restricted nasal breathing are normal and usually subside within a few weeks. In rare cases, a change in skin sensitivity or problems with nasal function can occur. Careful aftercare and compliance with the surgeon's postoperative instructions are essential to minimise these risks.

What does a correction of the nostrils cost in Dortmund?

The costs of a correction of the nostrils depend on the extent of the correction and the chosen technique. Following your consultation at Westfalenklinik, we will prepare a no-obligation treatment quote for you, so that you know what to expect before the procedure.

Westfalenklinik's treatment prices are final prices including statutory VAT. Follow-up treatments, the costs of the anaesthetist and, if you stay one night, accommodation and meals are not added afterwards. If the procedure is necessary because of a functional disorder of the nose, private health insurance or Beihilfe (German civil service allowance) may contribute in part; more on this in the questions below. Financing is possible through our financing partner; more on this under Financing your treatment.

What should I look for in a doctor who is to correct my nostrils surgically?

Choosing the right surgeon is crucial to the success of a nostril correction operation. Make sure that the surgeon has extensive experience in nasal surgery and specialises in rhinoplasty. A qualified specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery or in ear, nose and throat medicine with a particular focus on nose corrections is a suitable choice. Check the doctor’s qualifications and ask about their experience with the planned procedure during the consultation. Open and trusting communication with the surgeon is also important to ensure that your individual wishes and expectations are taken into account. The surgeon should explain the entire course of the operation, the possible risks and the necessary aftercare measures to you clearly, so that you can go into the treatment well informed and with confidence.

At the Deutsches Nasenzentrum® led by Dr. med. Michael Bromba, with decades of experience, you can rely on expertise and care in carrying out a considered adjustment of the nostrils. Arrange your no-obligation appointment for a personal consultation at Westfalenklinik Dortmund.

Frequently asked questions

When does German statutory health insurance pay for a nose correction?

If the operation is necessary because of a functional disorder of the nose, private health insurance or Beihilfe (German civil service allowance) may cover part of the costs. This does not apply to the aesthetic part of the nose correction. Please discuss this with your private health insurance or Beihilfe. For people with statutory insurance, reimbursement by their German statutory health insurance fund is possible if there is a medical indication and the treatment takes place in our central clinic. You will receive further information in your personal consultation.

How painful is nose surgery and how long is the nose swollen?

Any pain that occurs can be treated well and effectively with accompanying medication. Slight swelling and haematomas under the eyes are possible, but these have usually subsided by the time the cast is removed.

How long is the stay in the clinic for a nose correction?

As a rule, you can leave the clinic one day after the correction. In a few exceptional cases you stay for a second night for observation. Smaller procedures can be done on an outpatient basis.

How should I behave straight after a nose correction, how long do I have to wear a cast and when can I return to sport?

In the first one to two weeks, wear a plaster splint applied straight after the correction, with an adhesive or acrylic dressing. Avoid nicotine, sunbathing and sport during this time. Wash your hair with your head bent forward. In the first six weeks after the nose correction you should also refrain from wearing glasses.

How long will I be signed off sick after nose surgery?

Naturally, this depends on which type of nose correction is necessary and advisable in your case. It makes a difference whether we only perform a nasal tip correction, only straighten the nose or carry out a full nose correction. In most cases you are unfit for work for 14 days, in exceptional cases somewhat longer. Your treating doctor at Westfalenklinik can tell you very precisely how much time off work to expect in your case if healing goes well.
