Stomach reduction in Dortmund: consultation, procedure and aftercare at Westfalenklinik

Westfalenklinik in Dortmund has been offering endoscopic stomach reduction for many years. Consultation, preliminary examination, the procedure and the appointments afterwards take place in the same building on Rosemeyerstraße: the specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery does not depend on external surgical centres or affiliated clinics for this, and a personal contact person accompanies you from the first consultation to the final check-up. If you stay one night after the endo-sleeve, you are cared for by the clinic’s own state-certified staff.

The clinic is located directly on the B1/A40 near the Signal Iduna Park. By car, leave the B1 at the Dortmund-Hombruch exit and park on the building’s parking deck directly in front of the entrance; from the main station, take the U45 to Stadtgarten and then the U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim.

Personal consultation on your options

In a personal consultation, our doctors explain the procedures, their requirements and risks to you and discuss with you which treatment is an option for you.

When does a stomach reduction make sense?

Endoscopic stomach reductions are gentle methods that can help you reach your weight-loss goals and lead a healthier life without having to resort to radical diets or risky procedures. No operation is necessary for this, and neither are incisions through the abdominal wall.

Finding a balanced relationship between diet and exercise is hard for many people. Often there is an imbalance, with a surplus of food and a lack of exercise. The consequences are rising weight and declining satisfaction with yourself. Overweight and obesity, by the way, are not rare. On the contrary. The number of overweight people is rising steadily across Germany, which increases the need for effective therapies to treat this widespread disease effectively. Because many of those affected cannot find the right way to lose weight effectively without help.

Stomach reduction without surgery at Westfalenklinik

Westfalenklinik offers people seeking help various options for starting a healthier life. We rely on measures without a radical, unhealthy diet or surgery that places a heavy strain on the body. The gentle endoscopic procedures for effective stomach reduction reduce your meals in a natural way and thus support your motivation to lose weight. An individual nutrition plan and a personal fitness programme complement our services and are intended to help you maintain your desired weight in the long term.

Three routes to stomach reduction

A balloon for a limited time, gathering from the inside for the long term, or an operation. How the procedures differ.

Gastric balloonfor a limited time

The balloon takes up space in the stomach and is removed or excreted again after 4 to 12 months. Nothing is changed in the stomach itself; the balloon is meant to help you make smaller portions a habit during this time.

Permanent stomach reduction using the endoscopic POSE procedure

One method of stomach reduction in Dortmund is the POSE method, which has only recently been used in Germany. In the POSE method, so-called stomach folds are created in the upper and lower areas of the stomach in a minimally invasive way and without a surgical incision, so that the capacity of your stomach is reduced by 25 to 30%; the reduction is designed to be long-term. This causes the feeling of fullness to set in earlier and reduces food intake. Whether the reduced weight is maintained depends largely on the change in diet.

POSE® 3.0 endo-sleeve: stomach reduction without surgery

In the POSE® 3.0 procedure, only 6–8 anchors are placed along the inner wall of the stomach, instead of the previous 14–16. Thanks to the double-fold strategy and double-helix technology, each anchor grips two fold layers and achieves a stronger gathering.

  • 6–8 anchors instead of 14–16, for an even gentler treatment
  • Double-fold strategy for greater tissue uptake
  • Double-helix technology holds double fold layers
  • Volume reduction: the aim is for only approx. 25% of the stomach volume to remain

Minimally invasive, outpatient or with an overnight stay, and with short downtime. Find out more at Westfalenklinik Dortmund and arrange a consultation appointment; for how the procedure works in detail, see the page on the endo-sleeve.

Lower risk of infection, no incision through the abdominal wall

The advantages over other long-term obesity treatments: the risk of infection is significantly lower, there is usually less post-operative pain, faster recovery after the procedure and no incisions in the abdominal wall, as other surgical measures require either very large or many small incisions or access points through the abdominal wall. In addition, after the first few weeks the patient can eat and live without dietary restrictions. Studies show that POSE patients lost up to 56% of their excess body weight within two years; how much weight you yourself lose depends on your starting weight, your diet and your exercise. The treatment is suitable for overweight patients with a BMI of approx. 28 to 42.

Losing weight without surgery and without an incision with the gastric balloon, now also for 12 months

Stomach reduction using a gastric balloon offers a gentle alternative to surgical procedures. From a BMI of 27, the gastric balloon can be inserted by one of our doctors. This immediately enables a temporary stomach reduction, which is intended to curb excessive food intake. The resulting reduced capacity of your stomach means that you feel full after smaller portions and therefore eat less. In this way, the balloon can support you in losing weight in a controlled way without radical diets. With an appropriate change in diet, you can ultimately maintain the weight you have reached even after the gastric balloon has been removed. To make awareness of a healthy lifestyle and appropriate food intake a habit, we combine stomach reduction using a gastric balloon, depending on the package booked, with nutrition and fitness training tailored to you personally. The balloon is available for 6 months, for 12 months and as a swallowable gastric balloon.

Personal medical consultation in Dortmund

For a stomach reduction in Dortmund, you can choose from four carefully coordinated gastric balloon packages. You can decide together with our doctors in a personal consultation which package best suits your situation and your goal. We compare the three balloons on the page on the gastric balloon.

Advantages of endoscopic stomach reduction

  • Stomach reduction can bring about better control of the feeling of hunger
  • The treatments are carried out without a surgical incision through the abdominal wall
  • Short downtime thanks to quick recovery, and usually back out among people after just a few days
  • The procedures avoid the wound risks of other surgical procedures for stomach reduction

Would you like a stomach reduction and want to know whether the method is the right decision for you? Then you can request information from us and arrange a no-obligation appointment for the first consultation.

Frequently asked questions

How long is my stay after an endoscopic stomach reduction?

You can usually leave the clinic on the same day, without any external signs of treatment. You can simply return to your normal everyday life. However, we recommend resting at home for at least 3–4 days.

Who may be considered for an endoscopic stomach reduction?

Our stomach reduction procedures are suitable for severely overweight or obese patients with a BMI of approx. 26 to 42 who, in addition, have genuine motivation to take part in sustainable weight loss as part of a medically supervised programme. We clarify which procedure is suitable in the consultation.

How safe are the procedures?

Most patients are back home on the same day and can go about their everyday activities. Because our procedures involve no surgical incisions or access points through the abdominal wall or abdominal cavity and no wound healing is required, the risks of wound-healing problems or even infections are also low. Like any medical procedure, however, these procedures can also have side effects and complications; we inform you about them in detail before the treatment.

What accompanying symptoms occur?

Depending on the endoscopic stomach reduction procedure chosen, severe nausea and vomiting, fluid deficiency and weakness can occur in the first few days. To relieve these side effects, we give you prescriptions for effective medication and, if necessary, infusions that strengthen the body’s fluid balance.

What is stomach reduction without surgery?

This is the name for the endoscopic procedures in which the stomach is reduced through the mouth, without an incision through the abdominal wall. At Westfalenklinik, these are the gastric balloon, which reduces the stomach temporarily, and the POSE® 3.0 endo-sleeve, which is designed to be long-term.

What does a stomach reduction cost in Dortmund?

The costs depend on the method chosen. The standard gastric balloon package starts at €2,890; for the POSE® 3.0 endo-sleeve, the costs for self-pay patients start at €9,990. The prices are final prices including VAT; financing is possible through our financing partner.

Does German statutory health insurance cover a stomach reduction?

For the POSE® 3.0 endo-sleeve, reimbursement may be possible if obesity therapy is medically necessary and other measures have not had lasting success. Private insurers decide on a case-by-case basis. You can find the requirements on the page Costs and German health insurance.
