Thread lift in Dortmund: consultation and treatment in one place

Your thread lift takes place at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund, from the first consultation to the check-up. The treatment is carried out as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia and takes about 30 to 60 minutes; you leave the clinic on the same day. For its treatments, the specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery does not depend on external surgical centres or hospitals with visiting doctors, and a personal contact person accompanies you through all appointments.

Westfalenklinik is located at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, directly on the B1/A40 in the immediate vicinity of the Signal Iduna Park. By car, take the Dortmund-Hombruch exit on the B1, turn right into Wittekindstraße and after 700 m right into Rosemeyerstraße; you park on the building’s parking deck. By public transport, take the U45 from the main station to Stadtgarten and then the U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim.

A thread lift is also referred to as a gentle facelift

New methods and techniques have made thread lifts an established part of anti-ageing medicine. At Westfalenklinik, too.

A thread lift is the gentle tightening of the skin of the face using several special medical threads (“threads” in English). In accordance with an individual treatment plan, these threads are placed under the skin through tiny punctures.

The interplay of the thread paths placed in various directions during a thread lift is intended to tighten and lift the tissue and give it more volume. Like other minimally invasive treatments in anti-ageing medicine, the thread lift requires no skin incisions. The threads consist of polylactic acid, a substance that is well tolerated by the human body, and are completely broken down by the body over several months.

Thread lift as an alternative to a surgical facelift

A thread lift is particularly suitable if the skin of the face still has some remaining surface tension and has not yet become too slack. It can be complemented by other treatments of anti-ageing medicine, such as wrinkle treatments with a muscle relaxant or injections with dermal fillers. If the skin is already very slack, we will also advise you on a facelift.

Almost all parts of the face that begin to sag with advancing age come into question as treatment areas for a thread lift: that is, the eyebrows, cheeks, the jaw and neck area, the nasolabial zone (the part of the face between the nose and the cheek), but also the forehead.

Fillers, threads or surgery?

Which treatment is suitable depends on whether volume is mainly lacking or how much the skin has already sagged.

Hyaluronic acidDermal fillers

Hyaluronic acid is placed in the middle to deep layers of the skin. It replenishes volume loss, for example in the cheeks or chin, and softens deeper wrinkles. A filler injection can be combined with a thread lift.

Thread liftabsorbable threads

Threads made of polylactic acid are placed in the fatty tissue of the subcutis through small punctures. Small hooks anchor them in the tissue and lift it. A thread lift is mainly an option if the skin still has a certain firmness.

Aims of a thread lift

  • Tightening of individual, particularly noticeable wrinkles on the face
  • Building up volume by stimulating the subcutaneous tissue and forming new collagen
  • Lifting and smoothing of larger areas of the face by combining different threads
  • Threads that are completely broken down by the body

How a thread lift proceeds at Westfalenklinik Dortmund

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

Consultation in Dortmund. In the consultation, we check whether your skin still has enough elasticity for a thread lift and determine the treatment areas and the suitable threads. You can book your appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    At the start

Local anaesthesia. First, the area of the face to be treated is gently numbed locally.

  3. Step 3

    30 to 60 minutes

The threads. Then a special thread made of polylactic acid is inserted into the fatty tissue of the subcutis with a very fine micro-needle. What is special about this thread is that it carries tiny hooks. With the help of these hooks, the thread practically locks into the skin and exerts a pulling effect on the surrounding tissue. Your treating doctor can now move the thread, together with the skin tissue attached to it, into the desired position.

  4. Step 4

    Straight afterwards

The tightening. As a rule, a tightening effect is visible immediately. You can leave the clinic on the same day; an overnight stay is not necessary.

  5. Step 5

    The first few days

Subsiding. Slight swelling and small bruises may occur. With threads with tiny barbs, the treatment remains noticeable for a few more days. As a rule, you are back out among people after a few days.

  6. Step 6

    Over the months

New connective tissue. In addition, the needle puncture has a stimulating effect on the subcutaneous tissue, which begins to produce collagen. This second effect of the thread lift is intended to help improve the elasticity of the skin and its moisture balance. Since all threads used by Westfalenklinik are made so that they can be completely broken down by your own body, the body begins to enclose the threads with new connective tissue and thereby build up volume.

Not every thread is suitable for every type of thread lift

Most threads available today are self-dissolving, since they consist of polylactic acid and can therefore be completely broken down biologically by the body. What is decisive, however, is that your treating doctor selects the right threads for your thread lift, so that collagen lost over the years can be rebuilt to improve facial volume and, in addition, the tightening effect of the thread lift is maintained for as long as possible. For this purpose, we have three fundamentally different threads at our disposal, which are smooth, barbed or spiral-shaped and have different effects on the three treatment goals of local skin rejuvenation, plumping or skin lifting, and skin tightening of larger sagging areas. The doctor’s treatment experience with thread lifts therefore plays an important role in this choice.

Does a thread lift involve risks?

A thread lift also has risks and side effects to be aware of. These can include intolerance of the material used or of medication, as well as a wound healing process disturbed by other external and internal influences. It is therefore particularly important that you seek comprehensive personal advice and a medical briefing before a thread lift. Our doctors at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund are happy to support you with this.

Frequently asked questions

What accompanying effects can occur with a thread lift?

Slight swelling and small bruises can occur after a thread lift. Occasionally minor inflammation may also occur, which usually subsides again after a few days. Especially when threads with tiny barbs are used, the treatment remains noticeable for a few more days, and slight tenderness to pressure may develop.

Who is a thread lift best suited for?

A thread lift is mainly an option if the skin still has a certain firmness. In our view, women between the ages of 30 and 50 often benefit from it.

Who is a thread lift not suitable for?

Patients whose connective tissue has already sagged too much can usually no longer be helped with a thread lift. The same applies to patients who have lost a great deal of weight or who suffer from an inflammatory skin condition.

How long is the stay in the clinic after a thread lift?

After the thread lift, you can leave the clinic again on the same day. An overnight stay is not necessary. As a rule, you are back out among people after just a few days.
