Liposuction in Dortmund: from the consultation to the check-⁠up in one clinic

We plan, carry out and provide aftercare for your liposuction at the Westfalenklinik in Dortmund. Fatty deposits that barely respond to diets and exercise often sit on the abdomen. With good skin quality, liposuction alone may be enough. If a lot of skin is left in excess after pregnancies or weight loss, a tummy tuck is an option.

Hipsand waist

On the hips and waist, fatty deposits can be liposuctioned in a targeted way, on request in the same procedure as the abdomen, within the limits of what is medically justifiable. After major weight loss, a body lift tightens the abdomen, flanks, thighs and buttocks in one procedure.

Liposuction under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia

Depending on the area and method, liposuction takes one to four hours and is carried out under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia. Our doctors at the Westfalenklinik choose the method that is suitable for you and do not expose you to any unnecessary strain. Before the liposuction, your treating doctor marks the affected areas. Small incisions are made in inconspicuous spots, for example in the navel, through which fat cells are first loosened with a cannula and then suctioned out with a vacuum pump. Afterwards, a tight-fitting bandage (compression garment) is applied with the aim of counteracting possible swelling and supporting the new contour.

What happens during liposuction at Westfalenklinik and how does the water-⁠jet technique work?

A personal consultation with one of our doctors gives you the opportunity to express your ideas and to clarify whether liposuction is suitable for them. If this is possible, you decide together on the areas from which fat is to be removed.

The liposuction procedure then follows, as gently as possible and usually under general anaesthesia, twilight sedation or local anaesthesia. In liposuction with the water-jet technique, a mixture of saline solution and local anaesthetic is injected into the agreed areas so that a corresponding amount of fat can then be suctioned out through a small incision in an inconspicuous spot. The use of particularly thin special cannulas is intended to spare nerves and vessels. They also make the procedure possible on hard-to-reach areas such as the ankles.

To support healing, you first wear an elastic bandage against the swelling and then, for several weeks, a compression garment. The aim of liposuction is an improved contour of the treated parts of the body, ideally also a smoother skin appearance. The result depends, among other things, on your skin quality, the initial findings and a stable body weight.

    Day of surgery

    The procedure. The areas are marked, then the fat is suctioned out through small incisions, under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia. Afterwards, you go home or stay one night in the clinic.

  3. Step 3

    After 2 to 3 days

    Back among people. After 2 to 3 days, you are usually back out among people. Because of the risk of thrombosis, you should not sit for longer than two hours at a time.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 1 to 3

    Taking it easy. You avoid physical exertion, sunbathing and saunas during the first two to three weeks so that the wounds can heal well.

  5. Step 5

    Weeks 4 to 6

    Compression. Until then, you wear compression garments all day. They are intended to counteract swelling.

    Aftercare

What does liposuction cost in Dortmund? Costs and financing

Can several problem areas be treated with just one liposuction?

Yes, several areas can certainly be liposuctioned at once. However, here too there are of course limits to what is feasible and medically justifiable. We will be happy to advise you on which solution is an option for you.

Can fat cells form again in the same place after the procedure?

Usually not. The number of fat cells is genetically determined. Fat cells removed by liposuction therefore do not form again. With extensive weight gain, however, the remaining fat cells can enlarge, including in the treated areas.

Do scars form after liposuction?

Small scars of 4 to 5 mm can remain at the puncture sites. To the observer they usually resemble small moles and generally fade over time.

How long does healing take and why do I have to wear compression garments?

We recommend wearing compression garments all day for the first four to six weeks; they are intended to counteract swelling. Because of the risk of thrombosis, avoid sitting for more than two hours. You should definitely avoid physical exertion during the first two to three weeks, as well as sunbathing and saunas, so that the wounds can heal well.
