By public transport, take the U45 from the main station to Stadtgarten and from there the U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim.

A breast reduction in Dortmund is considered mainly for health reasons

The surgical breast reduction takes about three hours and is carried out exclusively under general anaesthesia. Just as with a breast lift, there are also different surgical techniques for reducing the breast as gently as possible. Which of these techniques is used depends on the anatomical characteristics of your body, the medical circumstances and, not least, your personal ideas. The aim of every procedure is and remains to achieve an aesthetic and natural result of your breast reduction. After glandular and fatty tissue have been reduced, the breast is reshaped, and the nipples are moved to the desired height and position where necessary.

This is how a breast reduction proceeds at Westfalenklinik, from the consultation to the end of the rest period:

  1. Step 1

    Beforehand

    Consultation in Dortmund. In the consultation we examine you, discuss all your questions and decide on the incision together. You can book your appointment online.

  2. Step 2

    Day of surgery

    The procedure. The operation takes about three hours and is carried out under general anaesthesia. Afterwards you usually stay in the clinic for one to two nights.

  3. Step 3

    The first few days

    Rest. Arm mobility may be restricted; tightness, bruising and mild pain are possible. The discomfort can usually be relieved with medication and subsides after a few days.

  4. Step 4

    After 1 to 2 weeks

    Back to everyday life. After one to two weeks you are usually back out among people.

  5. Step 5

    Weeks 4 to 6

    Support bra, then sport. Until then you wear a support bra, which supports the new shape during healing, and refrain from sport and physical exertion.

  6. Step 6

    Until week 8

    No sun on the scars. In the first eight weeks after the operation, please refrain from sunbathing and sunbeds.

How do the different breast reduction methods work?

Depending on the size and nature of the breast, your treating doctor at Westfalenklinik chooses the appropriate surgical technique. The techniques differ essentially in the incision. By removing the excess tissue and possibly repositioning your nipple, the breast is given a new shape. Here our doctors take specific care to achieve a result with as little scarring as possible. Wearing a support bra for the next 4 to 6 weeks is essential in order to support the new shape of your breast during healing.

As with a breast lift, the techniques differ essentially in the incision. Which one is suitable depends on the size and nature of the breast and on how much tissue is removed.

The incision runs around the areola and vertically down to the inframammary fold. Through it, glandular and fatty tissue are removed, the breast is reshaped and the nipple is moved to a suitable height where necessary.

Reduce, lift or both?

With an internal support

If the breast is the right size but has become slack, a breast lift without reduction may be enough.
