PRP hair therapy in Dortmund: consultation and treatment in one place

Your PRP hair therapy takes place at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund, from the first consultation to the further applications. Your treating doctor obtains the plasma concentrate on site and applies it directly, as an outpatient procedure and in about 20 minutes. Afterwards you are immediately back out among people.

You will find Westfalenklinik at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, directly on the B1/A40 near the Signal Iduna Park. By car, leave the B1 at the Dortmund-Hombruch exit and park on the building's parking deck directly in front of the entrance. From the main station, take the U45 to Stadtgarten and then the U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim. This means the applications, which are repeated at intervals of weeks and months, are also easy to reach.

How we obtain your plasma concentrate at Westfalenklinik

Your body's own blood concentrate (Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP for short), injected or applied externally, is a simple way of using modern biotechnology to support the body's own powers of regeneration and healing. The concentrated platelets release growth factors that control the process of skin regeneration.

Your treating doctor takes a small amount of blood from you and isolates the thrombocytes (platelets) using a special centrifugation process. The body's own blood concentrate (PRP) obtained in this way is ready for use within about 10 minutes. As it is made from your own blood, it contains no active substances foreign to the body; allergic reactions or intolerances to the concentrate itself are therefore not to be expected.

Producing 4 to 5 ml of PRP requires only a few steps and is ready for clinical use in a few minutes. Only 8 to 10 ml of venous blood need to be taken from the veins to prepare PRP, as PRP isolation achieves a platelet yield of more than 80%. This is possible because, with the help of a special gel, the blood plasma can be separated relatively easily from the other blood components.

The PRP is produced in a closed system under sterile conditions. The kits used for this are specially designed for the treatment and, for patient safety, are intended for single use only.

Effect of PRP hair therapy with and without a hair transplant

The body's own blood concentrate (PRP) is a natural therapeutic approach to hair loss. The body's own plasma concentrate is meant to initiate the regeneration of the environment of the hair follicles, increase the blood supply and boost the cell proliferation (cell growth) of the hair follicles. Clinical studies are investigating whether PRP hair therapy can stop hair loss and stimulate hair growth. By stimulating the environment of the hair follicles, PRP is meant to trigger a natural process that stimulates hair growth.

In combination with a hair transplant, PRP hair therapy is used with the aim of

  1. making the result visible sooner,
  2. increasing the take rate of the transplanted hair follicles and
  3. to slow down ongoing hair loss.
Use

PRP alone or with a hair transplant

PRP hair therapy is a conservative treatment. It can stand on its own or complement a hair transplant.

PRP aloneconservative

The plasma concentrate is meant to initiate regeneration in the area around the hair follicles, promote blood circulation and stimulate the cell growth of the hair follicles. A possible effect only becomes apparent over a longer period, which is why the treatment is repeated at certain intervals.

PRP with hairtransplantcomplementary

PRP is meant to promote wound healing in the treatment area. The aim is for the transplanted hair follicles to recover more quickly, for more grafts to take and for the result of the hair transplant to show sooner. The first application takes place on the day of the hair transplant.

Application of PRP hair therapy by doctors at Westfalenklinik

Only a few millilitres of blood are needed for treatment with PRP. The sample is centrifuged in order to concentrate the patient's own platelets in a small amount of plasma. This is then injected into the scalp using a fine needle. For an effect to occur, the procedure should be carried out at least three times, ideally more often. In combination with a hair transplant, we recommend application by our doctors at Westfalenklinik at the following intervals:

  1. Step 1

    Day of surgery

Application on the day of the hair transplant. PRP is meant to promote wound healing in the treatment area.

  2. Step 2

    After 2 to 4 weeks

Application 2 to 4 weeks after the hair transplant. The application takes about 20 minutes, after which you are immediately back out among people.

  3. Step 3

    After 3 months

Application 3 months after the hair transplant. In combination with a hair transplant, we recommend at least 3 to 4 applications.

  4. Step 4

    Every 3 to 6 months

Further applications at intervals of 3 to 6 months each. A possible effect only shows over a longer period.

Frequently asked questions

What advantage do I gain from PRP in combination with a hair transplant?

PRP is intended to promote wound healing and help the post-operative trauma in the treated area subside more quickly. This is intended to help the freshly implanted hairs regenerate more quickly, which in turn can improve the growth rate. In addition, the final result of the hair transplant may appear earlier thanks to PRP hair therapy.

What risks are there with PRP hair therapy?

Possible accompanying symptoms are redness of the scalp, slight temporary swelling and discomfort at the injection sites. We inform you about further possible risks before the treatment.

I have allergies or intolerances. Is PRP therefore a risk for me?

Our PRP approach contains so-called growth factors for the hair, which are obtained exclusively from your own blood; the concentrate contains no active substances foreign to the body. Please nevertheless tell us about any known allergies before the treatment.

How often should I have PRP hair therapy carried out?

PRP hair therapy is a conservative form of therapy. Results are therefore to be expected over a longer period than with a more aggressive treatment approach, for example with medication. In addition, the therapy has to be repeated at certain intervals to ensure that the hair roots are supplied with the important growth factors. We therefore recommend having the therapy carried out at least 3 to 4 times in combination with a hair transplant, and at least 5 to 6 times as a stand-alone application.
