What is RENUVION®? Modern treatment options for skin tightening
Slack skin on the abdomen, legs or buttocks can have many causes. Besides the passage of time, successful weight loss or body-contouring treatments such as liposuction can above all be responsible for whole areas of the body becoming slack, sagging or simply no longer looking as nicely smooth as they used to. For many people, this is simply no longer attractive aesthetically.
Previously, it was then necessary, for example following liposuction, to have a further operation for the surgical tightening of areas of skin. That meant a lot of effort, involved additional risks and was often very costly as well. With RENUVION® technology and its helium plasma energy, areas of skin on the legs, arms, buttocks or back, but also on the neck and décolleté, can be tightened minimally invasively, without a further surgical procedure. Whether the treatment can replace surgical tightening depends on the degree of skin slackness.
At Westfalenklinik in Dortmund, our doctors use the RENUVION® procedure. The technology uses the properties of helium plasma in combination with a focused supply of energy specifically on the affected skin vessels. The so-called dual thermal effect produced in this way is intended to make the dilated vessels contract again and thereby tighten the tissue.
How does RENUVION® differ from other procedures?
Compared with other medical treatment solutions using thermal energy, such as laser or radiofrequency, RENUVION® is intended to deliver the energy in a particularly targeted way. There are two reasons for this: firstly, the technology can precisely heat the affected connective tissue. As a result, the energy is only supplied where it is needed. Secondly, RENUVION® is intended to ensure that the tissue can cool down to skin temperature again immediately. All of this happens in fractions of a second. Like any procedure using thermal energy, treatment with RENUVION® is not free of risks and side effects; we explain these to you in detail before the procedure.
How was RENUVION® developed?
RENUVION® is the result of many years of intensive research and clinical development. It was developed by the manufacturer Apyx™ Medical; the patented system combines the effects of helium plasma on the one hand and radiofrequency energy on the other. Skin tightening with RENUVION® explained clearly
What is special about treatment with RENUVION® is that it can either be used as a stand-alone minimally invasive treatment for skin tightening without surgery, or be carried out immediately following liposuction, i.e. in the same procedure without the need for a further operation. If the technology is used directly after liposuction, we insert the 4 mm fine hand piece of RENUVION® into exactly the same punctures as our Vibrasat PRO cannulas beforehand, which we have just used to remove the excess fatty tissue. This means there is no additional incision and no additional scar.
The helium plasma jet heats the tissue directly beneath the skin. This is intended to tighten the tissue and to stimulate the natural formation of new collagen, which is the prerequisite for a longer-lasting tightening effect.

How does the RENUVION® treatment proceed at Westfalenklinik?
The duration of the treatment depends somewhat on the area to be treated, but is usually about 20 to 40 minutes. The costs depend very much on the number and size of the areas to be treated, as the effort varies accordingly. The preferred form of anaesthesia also plays an important role in pricing. What should I expect from the course of RENUVION® skin tightening?
On the day of treatment, we welcome you at Westfalenklinik in the morning and give you all the time you need to settle in with us. After admission, a final discussion takes place once more with your treating doctor. In most cases, RENUVION® skin tightening in combination with liposuction is carried out under general anaesthesia, but for smaller areas also under local anaesthesia. Depending on the extent, you can leave the clinic again on the same day. After larger treatments, we keep you with us for 1 night in our spacious patient rooms for your own safety.
Is skin tightening with RENUVION® paid for by German statutory health insurance?
Tightening the skin using RENUVION® technology is, in the vast majority of cases, a purely aesthetic procedure. Most insurers and German statutory health insurance funds therefore usually reject an application for cost coverage. Westfalenklinik has therefore decided to offer this procedure exclusively to self-pay patients.
What results can be expected with RENUVION®?
RENUVION® is suited above all to moderately slack skin. Particularly in combination with liposuction, the treatment can in some cases make surgical skin tightening, which would otherwise be necessary, unnecessary. A particular advantage of RENUVION® treatment is that no large incisions are needed. As a result, only small scars form at the puncture sites, and the procedure is gentle on the tissue. For very severely slack skin and very extensive treatment areas, however, patients must expect that a surgical measure may be the more effective method. Am Tag der Beratung hat Frau Dr simidjiiska sich außergewöhnlich viel Zeit für mich genommen.

Sie hatten viel zu tun aber es hatte keine Auswirkung auf uns Patienten.Es blieben keine Fragen offen. Es wurde sich richtig Zeit genommen für Erklärung und zuhören. Ich stand im Mittelpunkt und mir wurde Anspannung genommen. Dafür erstmal schon ein Dankeschön 😉

Hier fühlt man sich von der Erstberatung bis zur Entlassung sehr gut aufgehoben. Den Ausschlag für die Wahl dieser Klinik gab der Hinweis der Ärztin, ob ich mir über die Größe der Narben bewusst wäre. Diese Tatsache benannte sie direkt und empfahl eine andere Methode, die bei mir ausreichen würde, obwohl die gewöhnliche Hautstraffung mittels Schnitt sicherlich lukrativer gewesen wäre. Das hat mich überzeugt. Auch der Aufenthalt in der Klinik wurde so angenehm wie möglich gestaltet und es wurde auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen. Der Kaffee der Nachtschwester morgens um 5 war das I-Tüpfelchen. ☺️

Es war ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Von der Frau Doktor bis zu den Anästhesie bis zu pflege Personal. Sie sind sehr nett und sind immer für den Patenten da. Ich kann die Klinik sehr empfehlen.

Jeder wird freundlich empfangen und behandelt, egal aus welcher Arbeitsschicht. Dr Reifenrath sowie alle Angestellten arbeiten professionell und Patientenorientiert. Stationär wie am Empfang, kümmert man sich sehr höflich und liebevoll um den Patienten. Der Anästhesist, seine Helferinnen und OP Schwestern waren ebenso freundlich und haben versucht mir die Nervosität zu nehmen. Alles in allem bin ich mit meiner Wahl der Klinik sehr glücklich.

Absolute Empfehlung! Ich habe mich vor einigen Wochen für eine Brustvergrößerung & Straffung bei Herrn Dr. Reifenrath entschieden. Vom ersten Besuch in der Klinik, bis zur OP und dem weiteren Verlauf war ich schlichtweg begeistert. Ich habe bei Herrn Dr. Reifenrath eine Bauchdeckenstraffung mit Korrektur einer Rektusdiastase und einer Fettabsaugung durchführen lassen. Ich habe mich jederzeit gut beraten und behandelt gefühlt. Die Heilung verläuft genauso, wie es Dr. Reifenrath im Vorfeld beschrieben hat und ich war nach wenigen Tagen wieder erstaunlich fit. Die Schmerzen hielten sich in Grenzen, die Nachsorge ist sehr unproblematisch und das Ergebnis super. Das gesamte Personal, ob am Empfang, im OP, auf Station oder in den Behandlungsräumen war immer sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ich habe mich rundum gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Vielen Dank!
