Gastric balloon: a whole year with the advantages of a stomach reduction
The gastric balloon system, designed for 12 months, is a non-surgical treatment for weight loss. The balloon is introduced in an endoscopic procedure through the mouth and throat into the stomach. Here it is filled with blue-coloured saline solution. This system has many advantages over conventional gastric balloons. The dwell time is now approved for 12 months, i.e. for a whole year, which leaves more time for the change. The balloon also has a “safety anchor”, which means that if it leaks it can no longer “pass” into the intestine and possibly cause an intestinal obstruction.
If you also choose Spatz3 technology, you have a further advantage: the filling volume of the gastric balloon already in place can then be adjusted at any time, upwards or downwards. This offers the advantage of adapting the balloon precisely and individually to the patient’s needs. Nausea and vomiting can thus be significantly reduced.

As a prospective patient, you first discuss all the details of the treatment with our doctors. The outpatient placement of the balloon takes no longer than 30 minutes. Afterwards you stay in the clinic for about 1 hour for observation and then go home.
The balloon can remain not just for 6 but for 12 months and, together with a continuous change in diet and exercise therapy, support greater weight loss. The filling volume can be readjusted as soon as you have got used to the balloon in the stomach. The programme is accompanied by our nutrition coaches, who support you during this challenging time. After 12 months the balloon is removed as an outpatient under sedation within a short time, in the same way as it was inserted.

Short settling-in phase with the gastric balloon
In the first few days with your gastric balloon you may feel somewhat unwell, as the stomach first has to get used to its new “resident”. Every patient reacts differently, but you should be prepared for accompanying symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea or cramps. During this time it is important to take in plenty of fluids and to avoid solid and fatty foods.
But we do not leave you alone during this difficult time! Your personal contact person will be in regular contact with you and help you through this time. Our nutrition coaches also give you valuable tips on how best to cope with the complaints of the first few days.
Medically supervised weight loss with the gastric balloon
After an adjustment phase of about two weeks, your body has got used to the gastric balloon; you can eat normally again. In addition, depending on the service package you choose, you now meet at regular intervals with your health coach, who supports you with your weight reduction.
How much weight you lose depends on your starting situation and your change of diet. In good time before the end of your gastric balloon wearing period, you will be given an appointment for the removal of your gastric balloon. In this, our doctors empty the gastric balloon so that it can be removed through the oesophagus without difficulty. Whether you maintain the weight you have reached depends on whether you stay true to a healthy lifestyle even without the gastric balloon.

Will I actually feel the 12-month gastric balloon?
In the first days your stomach has to get used to the new gastric balloon. An upset stomach and discomfort with vomiting are therefore possible. In most cases, however, these side effects are overcome after about 3–5 days. After that, the gastric balloon gives you a quicker feeling of fullness and reduces the occurrence of cravings.
Why should I choose the gastric balloon rather than trying a diet?
The gastric balloon reduces the capacity of the stomach; it is a great support for you in changing your diet more easily to a healthy level. How much weight you lose depends on your starting situation and your change of diet.
Can the gastric balloon leak and empty as a result?
This is possible in very rare cases. Should the gastric balloon lose fluid, however, the colour of your urine changes, as a harmless dye has been added to the saline solution. Am Tag der Beratung hat Frau Dr simidjiiska sich außergewöhnlich viel Zeit für mich genommen.

Trotz der noch vorhandenen Schwellung konnte ich sofort erkennen, das Resultat genau meininen Vorstellungen entspricht.
Dieser Moment hat mich bestätigt, dass ich die richtige Entscheidung getroffen habe.
Und nun ,2 Wochen nach dem Eingriff,bin ich immer noch absolut zufrieden.

Ich war für meine Augenoberlidstraffung in der Westfalen Klinik und insgesamt nur von 8 bis 11 Uhr dort – alles war bestens organisiert und lief reibungslos ab.

Hier fühlt man sich von der Erstberatung bis zur Entlassung sehr gut aufgehoben. Den Ausschlag für die Wahl dieser Klinik gab der Hinweis der Ärztin, ob ich mir über die Größe der Narben bewusst wäre. Diese Tatsache benannte sie direkt und empfahl eine andere Methode, die bei mir ausreichen würde, obwohl die gewöhnliche Hautstraffung mittels Schnitt sicherlich lukrativer gewesen wäre. Das hat mich überzeugt. Auch der Aufenthalt in der Klinik wurde so angenehm wie möglich gestaltet und es wurde auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen. Der Kaffee der Nachtschwester morgens um 5 war das I-Tüpfelchen. ☺️

Es war ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Von der Frau Doktor bis zu den Anästhesie bis zu pflege Personal. Sie sind sehr nett und sind immer für den Patenten da. Ich kann die Klinik sehr empfehlen.

Jeder wird freundlich empfangen und behandelt, egal aus welcher Arbeitsschicht. Dr Reifenrath sowie alle Angestellten arbeiten professionell und Patientenorientiert. Stationär wie am Empfang, kümmert man sich sehr höflich und liebevoll um den Patienten. Der Anästhesist, seine Helferinnen und OP Schwestern waren ebenso freundlich und haben versucht mir die Nervosität zu nehmen. Alles in allem bin ich mit meiner Wahl der Klinik sehr glücklich.

Absolute Empfehlung! Ich habe mich vor einigen Wochen für eine Brustvergrößerung & Straffung bei Herrn Dr. Reifenrath entschieden. Vom ersten Besuch in der Klinik, bis zur OP und dem weiteren Verlauf war ich schlichtweg begeistert. Vielen Dank für die schnelle und liebe Beratung ohne lange Wartezeit, ich kenne Dr. Bromba schon aus Essen damals, er ist ein sehr ehrgeiziger ehrlicher dazu immer herzlich gebliebenener Chirurg und Mensch. Die Damen am Empfang sind auch hübsch und dazu noch sehr herzlich. Liebe Grüße Frau Wilkens

Ich habe bei Herrn Dr. Reifenrath eine Bauchdeckenstraffung mit Korrektur einer Rektusdiastase und einer Fettabsaugung durchführen lassen. Ich habe mich jederzeit gut beraten und behandelt gefühlt. Die Heilung verläuft genauso, wie es Dr. Reifenrath im Vorfeld beschrieben hat und ich war nach wenigen Tagen wieder erstaunlich fit. Die Schmerzen hielten sich in Grenzen, die Nachsorge ist sehr unproblematisch und das Ergebnis super. Das gesamte Personal, ob am Empfang, im OP, auf Station oder in den Behandlungsräumen war immer sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ich habe mich rundum gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Vielen Dank!
