Tummy tuck in Dortmund: surgery and the nights afterwards in our own clinic

Your tummy tuck takes place at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund, from the first consultation to the final check-up. The specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery has been at the same location in Rosemeyerstraße for 25 years and, also for complete care and support after the operation, does not depend on external surgical centres, clinics with visiting surgeons or hospital departments. In the nights after the procedure you are looked after by our own qualified staff trained in emergency medicine, and the anaesthesia is provided by anaesthetists specialised in plastic and aesthetic surgery.

The clinic is located at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, directly on the B1/A40 in the immediate vicinity of the Signal Iduna Park. By car, leave the B1 at the Dortmund-Hombruch exit and park on the building’s parking deck directly in front of the entrance. By public transport, take the U45 from the main station to Stadtgarten and then the U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim.

Common reasons for a tummy tuck

  • Excess, slack skin on the abdomen after pregnancies or major fluctuations in weight
  • Slack abdominal muscles
  • Wish for a firmer abdomen, also in swimwear on the beach
  • Wish to feel more comfortable in your own body again

When the skin on the abdomen has been irreversibly overstretched by pregnancies, the natural ageing process or major fluctuations in weight, the natural firmness of the abdominal wall is lost. The natural ageing process also sometimes results in “sagging” skin on the abdomen.

Our doctors at Westfalenklinik advise you if you no longer feel comfortable with your abdomen. If liposuction is no longer sufficient and your weight remains at a constant level, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can be a suitable method of tightening the abdomen.

Removing excess skin on the abdomen

Especially if you suffer from slack or excess skin in the area between the navel and the pubic area, a tummy tuck can be a treatment option. Talk to our Westfalenklinik team in Dortmund.

Goals of a tummy tuck

  • Removal of excess fatty tissue and, if appropriate, tightening of the muscles for a flatter, firmer abdomen and a slimmer waist
  • Removal of excess skin tissue between the navel and the pubic hair; stretch marks in this area are removed along with it
  • Incision planned so that the scar is, as far as possible, covered by underwear or swimwear

How does a tummy tuck work?

Mini abdominoplasty

Depending on the desired result and the patient’s current condition, a tummy tuck can be carried out with varying intensity. In this procedure, a corresponding amount of excess skin and fatty tissue is removed and, if necessary, the abdominal wall is additionally tightened by means of an abdominoplasty. If a small tightening is enough, the lower abdomen is tightened up to the navel. The effect extends to the groins and the pubic area. In this case the scar lies directly above the pubic hair.

Large tummy tuck with liposuction

A large tummy tuck, on the other hand, extends over the entire area from the lower abdomen to the costal margin. In addition to the removal of skin and fatty tissue, the navel is repositioned. If your treating doctor recommends it and you wish, the tummy tuck can be supplemented with liposuction in the hip and waist area and with tightening of the muscles. In this way the treatment can be tailored to your ideas. Women can also have stretch marks or caesarean scars removed as part of the procedure.

Individual consultation and precise planning of the tummy tuck at Westfalenklinik

The tummy tuck is performed with care and precision under general anaesthesia and with modern treatment methods. In a personal consultation you explain your ideas and wishes to one of our doctors and can clarify any questions that arise. While a tummy tuck serves to treat large problem areas, the procedure cannot bring about weight loss. You should therefore only consider a tummy tuck to optimise your appearance once you have reached your desired weight.

Mini or large

How far the tightening extends depends on your initial findings and your aim. The length and course of the scar also depend on this.

What does a tummy tuck cost in Dortmund? Costs and financing

The treatment costs of a tummy tuck vary according to its scope and extent. Every additional procedure, such as liposuction, increases the complexity of the procedure and results in higher costs. As part of the consultation, we will be happy to prepare a no-obligation cost estimate for you in advance.

The Westfalenklinik’s treatment prices are final prices including statutory VAT. Overnight stay and meals, follow-up treatments and the costs for the anaesthetist are not added afterwards. On request, follow-up cost insurance against the costs of possible follow-up procedures is available, which we offer at cost price. Financing is possible through our financing partner, more on this under Financing your treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How long will I be in pain and how long will my body stay swollen after a tummy tuck?

Temporary post-operative bleeding, swelling, bruising and pain are possible. Should mild pain occur, it can usually be treated well with medication. With a good course of healing, these symptoms have usually subsided after about 2 weeks.

How does the scar run with a tummy tuck?

The course and length of the scar depend on the extent of the procedure. With a mini abdominoplasty the scar lies directly above the pubic hair and is roughly as long as it. With a standard abdominoplasty the scar extends to the pelvic bones. Our doctors plan the incision so that the scar lies, as far as possible, under swimwear or underwear.

Can the muscles also be firmed as part of a tummy tuck?

Yes, the muscles in the lower abdomen and upper abdomen can additionally be tightened in most cases. This is an option especially for patients with loose, slack abdominal muscles and for patients after a pregnancy.

What do I need to bear in mind after a tummy tuck? When can I do sport again?

For the first four to six weeks, wear a compression garment measured before the procedure and avoid sport and heavy physical activity during this time. The stitches are removed two weeks after the tummy tuck; after about three months you can usually move without restriction again.

When does German statutory health insurance pay for a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a technically demanding procedure and therefore quite costly. However, German statutory health insurance funds regard this surgical measure as an aesthetic correction and therefore usually see no reason to cover the costs. Exceptions can, however, be, for example, chronic inflammation of the abdominal apron, which in individual cases justifies the health insurance covering the costs. In any case, you should speak to your health insurance fund beforehand about whether there is a prospect of reimbursement. Whether you may be able to claim the costs of your treatment in your annual income tax return, please clarify with your tax adviser.

When can I go back to work after a tummy tuck?

This depends somewhat on the type of your occupation. If you have a job that is less physically demanding, you can return to work with the help of your compression garment after as little as two to three weeks. The more physically demanding your work is, however, the longer you should give your body a break. Please bear in mind that you should only take on physical exertion again after 3 to 4 weeks. This also includes carrying heavy objects. Please only start sport again after 6 to 8 weeks. Your treating doctor at Westfalenklinik can give you precise information on when, in your specific case and with good healing, you will be fit for work again.

What does a tummy tuck cost in Dortmund?

The costs depend on the extent of the procedure, that is, on whether a mini abdominoplasty is enough or a large tummy tuck is needed and whether fat is additionally suctioned off. As part of your consultation at Westfalenklinik you will receive a no-obligation cost estimate. The prices are final prices including overnight stay, meals, follow-up treatments and anaesthesia; financing is possible through our financing partner.
