From the consultation through insertion to removal, you stay in the same specialist clinic, which does not depend on external surgical centres for this, and during the half year Westfalenklinik’s patient coordinator and our nutrition coaches accompany you. In principle, treatments are possible at the clinic on any day of the week.
The clinic is located at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, right on the B1/A40 near the Signal Iduna Park. From the Dortmund-Hombruch exit, turn right into Wittekindstraße and after 700 m right into Rosemeyerstraße; you park on the building’s parking deck. The gastric balloon reduces the capacity of your stomach, causes you to feel full more quickly and can thus support you on the way to your desired weight and a better way of life. For patients with a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 27, it can support weight loss over six or even twelve months. Results vary from person to person.
The gastric balloon as a temporary stomach reduction
The principle of the gastric balloon is very simple: it reduces the capacity of your stomach so that you feel full more quickly. As a result, you take in less food, and typical cravings can become less frequent. In principle, the gastric balloon is therefore a temporary stomach reduction, without surgery and the possible complications associated with it.
In combination with a programme tailored individually to you by our team, your companion now teaches you how a balanced lifestyle works. Initial principles are meant to become habits that you keep up after the treatment as well.

With the gastric balloon and the supportive care of our nutrition coaches, we would like to influence your eating and fitness behaviour so that you can maintain your weight independently after the treatment.
How does the gastric balloon treatment proceed?
The time has come: you have decided on the gastric balloon, and the day of implantation is approaching. Our team now prepares you for the endoscopic procedure, which takes about 20 minutes. You will hardly notice anything of the implantation, as we place you under light twilight sedation. Our specialists in internal medicine and gastroenterology introduce the balloon on a tube through the mouth into your stomach and fill it there with a sterile saline solution. Once the balloon has been brought into the right position, the tube is removed again.

This is how treatment with the gastric balloon for 6 months proceeds at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund:
Step 1
Beforehand
Consultation in Dortmund. We examine you, discuss your goals and choose the balloon and the service package together with you. You can book your appointment online.
Step 2
Treatment day
Insertion. Under twilight sedation, the balloon is inserted through the mouth in about 20 minutes and filled with saline solution. Afterwards you go home.
Step 3
The first few days
Getting used to it. Nausea, cramps and vomiting are possible. Drink plenty and avoid solid and fatty foods.
Step 4
After about 2 weeks
Eating normally again. Your body has got used to the balloon; now the change begins with your health coach.

After 6 months
Removal. The balloon is emptied and removed through the oesophagus. You take the new habits with you.
How does the body react to the gastric balloon?
In the first few days with your gastric balloon you may feel somewhat unwell, as the stomach first has to get used to its new “resident”. Every patient reacts differently, but you should be prepared for accompanying symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea or cramps. During this time it is important to take in plenty of fluids and to avoid solid and fatty foods.
But we do not leave you alone during this difficult time! Westfalenklinik’s patient coordinator will be in regular contact with you and help you through this time. Our nutrition coaches also give you valuable tips on how best to cope with the complaints of the first few days. After an adjustment phase of about two weeks, your body has got used to the gastric balloon and you can eat normally again. In addition, depending on the service package you choose, you now meet at regular intervals with your health coach, who supports you with your weight reduction. Shortly before the planned wearing period of 6 months ends, you will be given an appointment for the removal of your gastric balloon. In this, our doctors first empty the filled gastric balloon so that it can be removed again through the oesophagus. Whether you maintain the weight you have reached depends on whether you keep up the new habits even without the gastric balloon.
Which gastric balloons does Westfalenklinik use?
We use only high-quality silicone gastric balloons from well-known manufacturers. These are approved for treatment from a body mass index of 27. All the products carry the European CE marking. Can I actually feel the gastric balloon while wearing it?

What accompanying symptoms occur with the gastric balloon?

Wow, was für ein erster Eindruck!
Dr. Frank Gruner, dessen Professionalität von jahrelanger Erfahrung zeugt, war äußerst verständlich und menschlich (was mir sehr wichtig war). Er verstand meine Bedürfnisse, und seine Erklärungen und Anweisungen entsprachen genau meinen Vorstellungen.

Ich bin rundum begeistert von meiner Erfahrung in dieser Haartransplantationsklinik. Von der ersten Kontaktaufnahme bis zur Nachsorge war alles hervorragend organisiert und professionell.
Das gesamte Team war unglaublich freundlich, hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Man hat sich jederzeit gut aufgehoben und ernst genommen gefühlt. Besonders positiv fand ich, dass sich alle Mitarbeiter ausreichend Zeit genommen haben, um meine Fragen zu beantworten und jeden Schritt verständlich zu erklären.

Ich kann bisher nur eingeschränkt bewerten, da ich lediglich ein Informationsgespräch hatte.
Der Arzt war sehr freundlich und ruhig. Er hat meine Fragen fachlich kompetent beantwortet und mich ausführlich darüber informiert, welche Behandlung zu meiner körperlichen Konstitution passen könnte. Außerdem erklärte er mir die Prozedur sowie die möglichen Risiken.
Im Anschluss hatte ich ein Gespräch mit den zuständigen Mitarbeitenden zur finanziellen Seite. Dort wurde ich über die Kosten, eine zusätzliche Versicherung, Ratenzahlungsmöglichkeiten sowie die organisatorischen Abläufe rund um die Operation informiert.

Am Tag der Beratung hat Frau Dr simidjiiska sich außergewöhnlich viel Zeit für mich genommen.

Am Tag der Op wurde ich von einem unglaublich einfühlsamen Team empfangen.
Obwohl ich extrem nervös war (zugegen:leicht hysterisch),wurde ichmit ruhigen,beruhigenden Worten auffgefangen und Schritt für Schritt auf den Eingriff vorbereitet.
Direkt nach der Op war sofort jemand an meiner Seite ,der regelmäßig nach mir sah.
Auch Frau Doktor Simidjiiska kam bereits nach kurzer Zeit persönlich vorbei,um sich nach meinem Zustand zu erkundigen.
Das gab mir ein großes Gefühl von Sichheiit.
Als mir nach kurzer Zeit der Verband entfernt wurde,um einen Neuen anzulegen,durfte ich einen Blick auf das Ergebnis werfen.
Trotz der noch vorhandenen Schwellung konnte ich sofort erkennen, das Resultat genau meininen Vorstellungen entspricht.
Dieser Moment hat mich bestätigt, dass ich die richtige Entscheidung getroffen habe.
Und nun ,2 Wochen nach dem Eingriff,bin ich immer noch absolut zufrieden.

Ich war für meine Augenoberlidstraffung in der Westfalen Klinik und insgesamt nur von 8 bis 11 Uhr dort – alles war bestens organisiert und lief reibungslos ab.

Hier fühlt man sich von der Erstberatung bis zur Entlassung sehr gut aufgehoben. Den Ausschlag für die Wahl dieser Klinik gab der Hinweis der Ärztin, ob ich mir über die Größe der Narben bewusst wäre. Diese Tatsache benannte sie direkt und empfahl eine andere Methode, die bei mir ausreichen würde, obwohl die gewöhnliche Hautstraffung mittels Schnitt sicherlich lukrativer gewesen wäre. Das hat mich überzeugt. Auch der Aufenthalt in der Klinik wurde so angenehm wie möglich gestaltet und es wurde auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen. Der Kaffee der Nachtschwester morgens um 5 war das I-Tüpfelchen. ☺️

Der Anästhesist, seine Helferinnen und OP Schwestern waren ebenso freundlich und haben versucht mir die Nervosität zu nehmen. Alles in allem bin ich mit meiner Wahl der Klinik sehr glücklich.

Absolute Empfehlung! Ich habe mich vor einigen Wochen für eine Brustvergrößerung & Straffung bei Herrn Dr. Reifenrath entschieden. Vom ersten Besuch in der Klinik, bis zur OP und dem weiteren Verlauf war ich schlichtweg begeistert. Ich habe bei Herrn Dr. Reifenrath eine Bauchdeckenstraffung mit Korrektur einer Rektusdiastase und einer Fettabsaugung durchführen lassen. Ich habe mich jederzeit gut beraten und behandelt gefühlt. Die Heilung verläuft genauso, wie es Dr. Reifenrath im Vorfeld beschrieben hat und ich war nach wenigen Tagen wieder erstaunlich fit. Die Schmerzen hielten sich in Grenzen, die Nachsorge ist sehr unproblematisch und das Ergebnis super. Das gesamte Personal, ob am Empfang, im OP, auf Station oder in den Behandlungsräumen war immer sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ich habe mich rundum gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Vielen Dank!
