Liposuction of the abdomen in Dortmund

Fatty deposits on the abdomen, hips and flanks often prove stubborn, even when you exercise and eat mindfully. When liposuction is an option there, when tightening is more likely to be the better choice, and how the procedure works at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund.

  • For localised deposits: Liposuction shapes individual areas; it is not intended for losing weight.
  • Skin helps decide: If it is still elastic, liposuction alone may be enough; otherwise tightening is an option.
  • Small access points: The incisions are placed in inconspicuous spots, for example in the navel.

Liposuction of the abdomen in Dortmund: consultation and procedure at Westfalenklinik

Many people will recognise this: the abdomen, hips or flanks keep their deposits even though other things are changing elsewhere on the body. It is often predisposition that determines where the body stores fat. At Westfalenklinik in Dortmund, we look closely at these areas during the consultation, check the firmness of your skin and discuss with you whether liposuction is the right approach. The preliminary discussion, the operation and the aftercare all take place in the same building: the specialist clinic for plastic and aesthetic surgery does not depend on external surgical centres or affiliated hospitals, and a personal contact person accompanies you up to the final check-up.

Westfalenklinik is located at Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, directly on the B1/A40 and in the immediate vicinity of the Signal Iduna Park. By car, leave the B1 at the Dortmund-Hombruch exit, turn right into Wittekindstraße and after 700 m right into Rosemeyerstraße; parking is on the building’s parking deck directly in front of the entrance. Without a car, take the U45 from the main station to Stadtgarten and change there to the U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim.

Who liposuction of the abdomen may be considered for

Good prerequisites for liposuction of the abdomen are:

  • Fatty deposits that barely respond to exercise and diet
  • A body weight that has been stable for some time
  • Skin that is still elastic enough to settle back into place
  • The wish to shape an area, not to lose weight

Liposuction does not help against being overweight. If you would like to lose weight, you will find Westfalenklinik’s treatments for this, from nutrition coaching to stomach reduction, under Weight loss. How the result of liposuction turns out depends, among other things, on your skin quality, your initial findings and on your weight staying stable afterwards.

Abdomen, hips and back: the areas at a glance

Lower and upper abdomen

Fat often collects below the navel, and in some people above it as well. Fat is removed through small access points placed in inconspicuous spots, for example in the navel.

Flanks and hips

The deposits at the sides above the waistband respond particularly stubbornly to training. They are often treated together with the abdomen so that the contour looks harmonious from the front and from the side.

Transition to the back

If the deposits on the flanks extend into the lower back, this area can also be included in the planning. How many areas can reasonably be treated in one procedure, we decide after the examination.

Liposuction of the abdomen after pregnancy

After a pregnancy, the abdomen often changes in several layers at once: fatty deposits, stretched skin and sometimes slackened abdominal muscles. As a rule, it makes sense to wait with a procedure until the body has settled after the birth and breastfeeding is over. We will discuss the suitable timing with you during the consultation in Dortmund, also after a caesarean section.

Whether liposuction is then enough depends mainly on the skin. If it is clearly stretched between the navel and the pubic area, a tummy tuck may be the more suitable route: excess skin and fatty tissue are removed, and stretch marks and caesarean scars in the area of skin that is removed can be removed with it.

Liposuction or tightening? Your options at Westfalenklinik

  1. 01

    Liposuction alone

If the fat sits mainly under skin that is still elastic, liposuction can change the contour of the abdomen and hips without a skin incision for a tightening being necessary.

  2. 02

    Liposuction with RENUVION®

If the skin is only moderately slack, RENUVION® can be used straight after liposuction through the same puncture sites. Helium plasma and radiofrequency energy are intended to contract the connective tissue beneath the skin; a change usually shows after about 6 weeks, and the result can be assessed after about 6 months.

  3. 03

    Tummy tuck

If excess skin remains or the abdominal muscles are slack, a tummy tuck is an option, supplemented on request by liposuction of the hips and waist. You will find the decision guide for this under Liposuction or tightening?

How liposuction of the abdomen works in Dortmund

  1. Step 1

    Consultation

Planning. We examine your abdomen, hips and skin, discuss your ideas and decide together which areas will be treated and which type of anaesthesia is suitable.

  2. Step 2

On the day of the operation

Marking. Before the procedure, your doctor marks the areas from which fat is to be removed.

  3. Step 3

    About 1 to 3 hours

Water-jet technique. A mixture of saline solution and local anaesthetic is introduced, and the fat is then suctioned out through small access points. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, twilight sedation or general anaesthesia.

  4. Step 4

    Straight afterwards

Bandage and compression garment. First, an elastic bandage protects against swelling; later, the compression garment takes over. Depending on the extent of the procedure, you go home the same day or stay one night at Westfalenklinik.

  5. Step 5

    After 4 to 6 weeks

Compression complete. You wear the garment all day for this long. Afterwards, at the check-up, we discuss what comes next.

Healing after liposuction of the abdomen

In the first few days, swelling and bruising on the abdomen are to be expected. You can usually be back out among people after as little as 2 to 3 days. Avoid physical exertion during the first 2 to 3 weeks, as well as sunbathing and saunas, so that the access points heal well. Because of the risk of thrombosis, do not sit for longer than two hours at a time during this period.

The stitches dissolve by themselves. The small scars of about 4 to 5 mm usually fade over time. You can read about what helps in the weeks after the procedure under After liposuction.

Fat cells removed by liposuction usually do not grow back. If you gain a lot of weight later, however, the remaining fat cells can enlarge, including on the abdomen. A stable weight is therefore part of the picture.

Risks of liposuction of the abdomen

Like any operation, liposuction is not without risks. Possible risks include bruising, swelling, unevenness of the skin surface, wound-healing disorders, infections and, rarely, thrombosis. Before the procedure, we will give you a thorough medical briefing on all the risks and on what you can do yourself to contribute to good healing.

What does liposuction of the abdomen cost in Dortmund?

The costs depend on how many areas are liposuctioned, how long the procedure takes and whether skin tightening or RENUVION® is added. After the consultation at Westfalenklinik, you will receive a no-obligation cost estimate. You usually pay for liposuction for aesthetic reasons yourself.

Westfalenklinik’s treatment prices are final prices including statutory VAT: overnight stay and meals, follow-up treatments and the costs for the anaesthetist are not added afterwards. You can finance the procedure through our financing partner; more on this under Financing your treatment. You can read everything about the costs of liposuction in Dortmund under Liposuction costs.

Frequently asked questions

Who is liposuction of the abdomen suitable for?

For women and men with fatty deposits on the abdomen, hips or flanks that barely respond to exercise and diet, whose weight is stable and whose skin still has enough firmness. Whether this applies to you, we clarify during the examination at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund.

Can I lose weight with liposuction of the abdomen?

No. Liposuction changes the shape of individual body areas; it is not suitable for treating being overweight. If you would like to lose weight, we advise you under Weight loss on the clinic’s options.

When is liposuction of the abdomen possible after a pregnancy?

As a rule, it makes sense to wait until the body has settled after the birth and breastfeeding is over. We will discuss the suitable timing with you during the consultation, also after a caesarean section.

Liposuction or tummy tuck: which is right for me?

If the fat sits mainly under skin that is still elastic, liposuction alone can be enough. If excess, slack skin remains or the abdominal muscles are slack, a tummy tuck is more likely to be an option. The examination shows which route is right.

Can the abdomen and hips be treated in one procedure?

Yes, several areas can be liposuctioned in one operation, as long as it remains medically justifiable. How much makes sense in one procedure, we decide together with you after the examination.

How long will I be out of action after liposuction of the abdomen?

After 2 to 3 days, you are usually back out among people. Avoid physical exertion during the first 2 to 3 weeks; when you can return to work therefore also depends on your job.

Will there be scars after liposuction of the abdomen?

Small scars of about 4 to 5 mm form at the access points. We place them in inconspicuous spots, for example in the navel, and they usually fade over time.

What does liposuction of the abdomen cost in Dortmund?

The price depends on how many areas are treated, how long the procedure takes and whether tightening is added. At the consultation, you will receive a no-obligation cost estimate. Westfalenklinik’s prices are final prices including overnight stay, meals, follow-up treatments and anaesthesia; financing is possible through our financing partner.
