Check-ups
at Westfalenklinik
  • Compression: all day for the first four to six weeks, against swelling and for even skin.
  • Movement instead of sitting for long periods: because of the risk of thrombosis, do not sit for longer than two hours at a time.
  • Patience with the result: the new contour only shows once the swelling has gone down.

Aftercare after liposuction in Dortmund: accompanied by Westfalenklinik

Liposuction does not end with the procedure itself. In the weeks that follow, the swelling subsides, the skin settles against the tissue, and the new contour gradually becomes visible. At Westfalenklinik in Dortmund we accompany you through this time: you are operated on in the same building where you also come for your check-ups. For care and support after the operation, the clinic does not depend on external facilities, and a personal contact person accompanies you up to the final check-up.

For these appointments you come to Rosemeyerstraße 2–4, directly on the B1/A40 and right by the Signal Iduna Park. By car, leave the B1 at the Dortmund-Hombruch exit, turn right into Wittekindstraße and after 700 m right into Rosemeyerstraße; on the building’s parking deck you stop directly in front of the entrance. At the main station you board the U45, at Stadtgarten you change to the U42, and you get off at the Theodor-Fliedner-Heim stop.

The first weeks after liposuction at Westfalenklinik

  1. Step 1

    Straight after the procedure

Elastic bandage. At first, a close-fitting elastic bandage helps to keep the swelling down. After a smaller procedure you go home the same day, after a larger one you stay for one night.

  2. Step 2

    After 2 to 3 days

Back among people. As a rule, you are back out among people after two to three days. A feeling of tightness and bruising can remain for a while.

  3. Step 3

    Up to week 3

Taking it easy. You avoid physical exertion in the first two to three weeks. Even so, keep moving regularly and do not sit for longer than two hours at a time.

  4. Step 4

    Up to week 6

Compression. You wear the compression garments all day for the first four to six weeks. With that, the follow-up treatment is also complete.

  5. Step 5

    Afterwards

The result. Once the swelling has gone down, the new contour can be assessed. We will see you again in Dortmund for a check-up.

Well prepared for the time after liposuction in Dortmund

A lot for the first few days can be arranged before the procedure:

  • Arrange to be picked up; after anaesthesia you do not drive yourself
  • Put out comfortable, loose clothing that fits over the compression garments
  • Plan the first few days without appointments or heavy work
  • Make a note of the check-up appointments at Westfalenklinik

We will discuss with you in the preliminary discussion in Dortmund which medication you should stop before the procedure and what to bring on the day of surgery.

Compression garments after liposuction

Why compression

The compression garments are meant to counteract swelling and to help the skin settle evenly against the tissue beneath it. This contributes to a smooth surface.

How long

For the first four to six weeks you wear them all day. How much longer after that, we will discuss at the check-ups.

What to look out for

They should fit well without constricting. If they press in one place or slip, tell us about it.

What to bear in mind in the weeks that follow

  • Avoid physical exertion in the first two to three weeks
  • Do not sit for longer than two hours at a time, because of the risk of thrombosis
  • Refrain from sunbathing and saunas until the wounds have healed
  • Wear the compression garments consistently
  • Attend the agreed check-ups

The puncture sites are only a few millimetres in size, and the stitches dissolve by themselves. Small scars of about 4 to 5 mm remain, which are placed in inconspicuous spots wherever possible and usually fade over time.

Work, movement and sport after the procedure

Back to everyday life

Guide values from Westfalenklinik for liposuction. Longer times apply after lipoedema surgery.

As a rule, you are back out among people after two to three days. When you return to work depends on how extensive the procedure was and how physical your work is. We plan this with you before the operation.

Movement

Light movement in everyday life is welcome, whereas sitting for long periods is not. Short walks and getting up now and then help to keep the risk of thrombosis low.

Sport

In the first two to three weeks you refrain from physical exertion. We will discuss with you in the aftercare when you return to training.

Manual lymphatic drainage can make sense after medical consultation. We will clarify at the check-up whether it is an option for you.

So that the result lasts

Fat cells that have been removed do not, as a rule, regrow. The remaining fat cells can, however, enlarge if there is a marked weight gain, including in the treated areas. A stable body weight is therefore important so that the new contour is maintained. What it ultimately looks like also depends on your skin quality and the initial findings.

If loose skin remains after the liposuction, tightening may be an option, for example with RENUVION® for moderately loose skin. More on this under Liposuction or tightening?.

When to get in touch with us

Swelling, a feeling of tightness and bruising are part of the first few days. However, get in touch with Westfalenklinik, by phone on 0231 54 504 900, if the pain increases markedly instead of easing off, if you develop a fever, or if a puncture site becomes red and warm. If one leg suddenly swells on one side and hurts, have this checked by a doctor straight away, because a thrombosis may be behind it. Outside consulting hours, contact the on-call medical service or, in urgent cases, the emergency department.

What does aftercare after liposuction cost in Dortmund?

Aftercare is part of the treatment. The treatment prices of Westfalenklinik are final prices including statutory VAT: follow-up treatments, overnight stay and meals as well as the costs of the anaesthetist are not added afterwards. If you wish, you can take out follow-up cost insurance against the costs of possible follow-up procedures, which the clinic offers at cost price. You can read what the price of the liposuction itself depends on under Cost of liposuction; financing is possible through our financing partner, more under Financing your treatment.

Different timings apply after lipoedema surgery

Liposuction for lipoedema is usually more extensive than aesthetic liposuction. The stay, compression and recovery take longer there. You can read what to expect after lipoedema surgery at Westfalenklinik in Dortmund under After lipoedema surgery.
